Francisco Morazan Forest Region of ICF, presented the Forest Protection Strategy

Guaimaca, Francisco Morazan .- In order to reduce forest fires in the Department of Francisco Morazan, Vice Minister of National Institute for Forestry Development Forest Conservation (ICF), Carlos Rene Romero, introduced the Strategy for Protection of Francisco Morazan region in 2011 to several municipalities of this department.

With the implementation of the strategy was intended to insulate intensively over 388 thousand hectares of pine and broadleaf forest and extensively over 400 thousand hectares, decreasing by 80 percent the occurrence of forest fires, with emphasis on areas identified as hazardous and efficiently integrate all forest owners in forest protection activities.


The work to be done addressed by the strategy are: fire rounds at roadsides Tegucigalpa, San Pedro, Tegucigalpa-South-Olancho Tegucigalpa, Tegucigalpa Danli with the direct support of military, ICF (about 10 km, and prescribed burning in national forests, ejido and private where necessary.

For manufactured forest protection this year have involved the municipalities, owners of forests, agro-forestry groups, water boards, forest industries, co-managers of protected areas, the Armed Forces of Honduras Fire and NGOs.


The presentation of the Strategy was attended by the mayors of the municipalities of Guaimaca, Orica, Marale, San Ignacio, the Forest Fire San Juan de Flores, Talanga and Tegucigalpa, representatives of the farmers, the Chief Forest Region of Francisco Morazan and Protection Coordinator ICF.
