CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments. Aims to ensure that international trade in specimens of animals and plants does not pose a threat to their survival.


The species covered by CITES are listed in three different Appendices, according to their degree of protection, threatened or endangered.


The 15th Convention of the Parties to CITES, held in the City of Dojo, Qata, UAE from 12 to 25 March 2010, which were developed issues such as: Strategic Issues the Convention, the interpretation and application of the convention. This convention was also attended by Carla Cárcamo Patricia Head, Department of Wildlife Institute of Forest Conservation and Development, Protected Areas and Wildlife (ICF), and the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) José Julián Suazo.


The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was held to amend the Appendices for inclusion fauna of endemic iguanas spiny-tailed Utila, Roatan and Aguan Valley (Ctenosaura bakeri, Ctenosaura oedirhina, Ctenosaura melanosterna and Ctenosaura palearis).


Similarly, the proposal was submitted for inclusion in Appendix II to 5 species of frogs of the genus Agalychnis, the proposal was made by Mexico and Honduras. Also approved the draft Conservation of species of Cedrela odorata, Dalbergia retusa, Dalbergia blackwood, Dalbergia stevensonii and Mahogany.
