Rainforest Alliance and ICF, Aunan Efforts to Prevent Illegal Logging

In order to establish coordination of actions and efforts to strengthen and develop the forest sector, prevent illegal logging and deforestation in the country, the Regional Manager of Rainforest Alliance TREES Inc, Joseph Román Carrera Alvarado, signed letter of intent with the Executive Director of the Institute of Forest Conservation (ICF) Trinity José Suazo.


By signing the agreement is to combine efforts to strengthen support responsible forestry development under the principles of independent forest certification and create conditions for development and trade of forest products with emphasis on products from certified sources, from forests under community management.

The document also establishes the fight against climate change through the optimal forest management, define, plan and implement activities together to achieve the objectives and goals.


Some of the commitments agreed by the Rainforest Alliance Inc, are to advise and cooperate with the ICF on the issue of forest certification and the application of a scaling system was FSC certification, provide support for strategies to fight illegality with the application of controlled wood tools and verification of legal sources, among others.

The ICF for its part, agrees to approve and implement a strategy for climate change mitigation approach National Plan of facilitation and validation of REDD projects, implement a strategy to combat illegal logging and socialize with different actors.


Likewise shall review and approve the strategic and planning tools developed in coordination with the Rainforest Alliance Inc, review, approve and implement policies for market development certificates from of forests under community management, among others.

The signing of the agreement took place in the premises of the National Preservation Institute and Forestry, Protected Areas and Wildlife, in the presence of the Deputy Director of Protected Areas, Jose Antonio Galdames, Forest Management; Carlos Rene Romero and Rainforest Alliance Inc, Medardo Caballero.
